Welcome to Learning Solutions.
We provide simple and effective ways to improve brain & body function to enhance listening, learning and movement ability.
Sensory Processing for learning and life.
Here at Learning Solutions we're passionate about helping children and adults reach their full potential.
We specialise in the sensory aspects of learning i.e what are the root causes of any challenge with listening, reading, movement and learning.
Our personalised programmes help develop underpinning areas of sensory motor development, auditory processing, timing and rhythm. So whether you are a parent looking for help for your child, someone needing to reduce stress levels, or a professional keen to work with the sensory aspects of learning, we can offer solutions.
We provide accredited training to individuals, schools or organisations in the programmes we work with, and also have our own consultancy for individuals who are looking to improve their learning capabilities.
Established since 1996, we have a long history of success in these areas.
Pyramid of Learning (Williams & Schellenberger)
Did you know that although we have 5 external senses of sight, sound, touch, taste and smell, we also have other internal senses? These include the vestibular and proprioceptive systems which are vital to body awareness, spatial awareness and our relationship with gravity. Imagine trying to sit and learn when you don't really know where you are in space or where all the parts of your body are in relation to each other! The Pyramid of Learning highlights how we need these sensory skills to be well developed to allow full access to areas higher up the pyramid.
You could also think of development as like building a wall. We need strong foundations to hold up the wall. All the bricks together make the wall strong and if we build from the bottom up, ensuring all the bricks are in place, we will have the best wall possible. This is essentially the case with development and learning.
Let's take writing as an example. Imagine trying to write when you don't know how to coordinate the movement of your fingers, wrist, arm and shoulder without consciously thinking about it. You can probably write the letters of the alphabet with your eyes closed as you will have a 'muscle memory' of how to form all the letters and sequence them together, but we cannot assume that everyone has developed this ability.
Our work focuses on the development of sensory processing, vestibular and proprioceptive function, primitive reflexes, timing and laterality. These are the underpinning areas which then allow higher level skills to develop such as writing, listening, literacy and learning in school, but also sports skills. In essence, we can all, always improve our processing ability, timing and body awareness, whatever level we are currently at.
